The New York State Museum

The New York State Museum, located in the capital city of Albany, New York, is a major research and educational institution that, by law, conducts systematic investigations into the geology, biology, anthropology and history of New York. It is mandated to disseminate the results of this work through its educational and advisory services to benefit the economy, environment, health and education of the people of the State. The Museum hosts more than 750,000 visitors each year, making it one of the largest cultural attractions in the state.

The New York State Museum is open daily from 9:30 to 5:00 PM. Admission is free.

Albany Institute of History and Art

Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art is a museum dedicated to collecting, preserving, interpreting and promoting interest in the history, art and culture of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley region.

The Institute is open Wednesday - Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and on Sundays from noon to 5 PM. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors and $6 for kids ages 6-12.
